How the Skunk met his fate…..

You know how to tell real friends?  They love you, even when you are coated with the perfumed aroma of a certain striped rodent.

Sunday night was a wonderful example, when the Relay Rockers and T1 Radio hosted an event to “DeSkunk” two teams: Team Shadow and RFL ADvocacy.  The de-scenting went very quickly, and both teams shooed away Stinky with its tail between its legs before the first half hour of the event was up.  Thank you to everyone who came, donated and danced with us in celebration.

However, perhaps the best of Second Life was demonstrated later in the event when the SL RFL family came together to support Team Run For Life Angels, and a young man named Wolf.  The Day of the Wolf began with an event at Bill Wheelwright’s new “made for Relay” venue at Pooley Plaza.  A fantastic U2 tribute concert in support of the newly formed Run For Life Angels Team raised funds in the Bronze level area.   Later, after the skunked teams had been thoroughly cleaned, Trader1 Whiplash-Ballinger voiced over T1Radio and posted in Volunteers Chat the saga of the teenager who had been sentenced to “no hope” and reminded us all of what our drive and generosity can accomplish.  Trader was joined by Bill, Mandy Lavarock, Oldesoul Eldemer and others in encouraging donations and support to this young man.  The result:  raising over 30K for Run For Life Angels and the American Cancer Society.

Well… I said.  Stinky is gone from Team Shadow and RFL ADvocacy, but he left a lasting impression. Wonder if you all knew this:  Skunk spray is an oily substance with a sulfur base.  The horrid smell is the product of mercaptans, an organic compound contained within the spray.  Though everyone knows that the spray is useful for skunks in defending themselves, few people are aware that humans benefit from the smell as well.  Scientists have found that adding mercaptans to odor free natural gas serves to assist in detecting leaks from furnaces and stoves.

By Panza Finch….who hands her husband a slightly used gas mask and a note not to open his mouth around Stringrays anymore…..

Bain sneaks in — Sometimes that filter between the mind and mouth doesn’t always work. The one thing I have to add is that I have never been more proud and honored to be part of this amazing family of friends the world over.  How we all stand united in our resolve, to each do what we can to end this fight, to support one another and how we have all grown so very close to each other.

They say Relay is a life changing event. I have come to know this as a fact, and I have seen that change with most everyone I’ve grown of come to know here and as they are welcomed into our Relay family. I’ve seen with my own eyes, a shy and quiet soul change into a potent force for Relay in both their Second Life and in their First Life.

Plans do go wrong

WoW, just made it through a crazy week and looks like, that is not going to change for the next two as I try to juggle all the items on my plate.

As some of you know, I am a mature college student, taking an advertising and marketing program and I am down to the wire with the last few weeks of the course, so the workload is at heavy, as it will ever get.  And if that not enough, I am still actively trying to do what I can, with my team for Relay For Life of Second Life.

This past week, my part of the RFL ADvocacy team, held two events.

The first was a multi team event held with the team of Aether Chrononauts called the RFL Cartoon Caper of SL was people were encouraged to wear cartoon avatars.

The second was an idea Aryon Dagger presented to me, centered on the idea that this year being the 100th anniversary of the American Cancer Society, to host a Formal Birthday Ball.

Now as anyone knows, the best plans do often go astray, and both events had their measure of that.

At the Cartoon Capers, Aryon Dagger‘s DJ program decided to eat the play list and only play sound effects and was not able to perform the task at hand.

At the Formal Birthday Ball, the area we had set up the venue was on a different parcel to the one I had access to and didn’t discover my error, until the time it can to start the event. This oversight required me to move the whole venue across the sim and in so doing, lost the dance machine we had for the event.

However, the incredible thing about the people in Relay For Life of Second Life, is they are more than willing to help out and bless them all, helped pull off both events with grace and in the end, made both even a success. I am so humbled for everyone’s contribution in my time of need and crisis.

In the case of the Capers, DJ Al Red Rider stepped in to cover for Aryon time slot and I own him a debt of gratitude.

In the case of the Formal dance Gem Sunkiller and Sasha Fairywren team Captain of Team Shadow, both stepped in, to offer the guest a ride on their dance hud and we carried on, to what turned out to be another wonderful event for the team.

Holocluck Henly and his team members of RFL ADvocacy, have been busy too. Together we raised about $20,000 lindens this past week, and I am so delighted with everyone efforts.

However, the big and most delightful surprise was came from Jennifer Wolf when she was at a local event and the subject of Convio came up. Being the person she is, quickly put it out that she had a Convio account for her efforts in Relay, and bless her and her cousin’s best friend, donated $200 USD to the team.

I do have to say again, I am so thankful for everyone efforts and thankful for those that step in, to help in a moment panic, to carry the torch forward. I do not have the words to express my gratitude for what this did. Just saying thank you, just does not cut it.

But I also know, that at the core, this is the root of the One Team Ideal, that is Relay.

We are all in this for one reason, to do what we each can, for the HOPE we all carry in Relay. We are in this fight together, and problem is just another word for challenge, and challenges are to overcome, so that we all move forward as one. In this, I am delighted to do my little part and being a part of something, that is so big as the global fight to end this thing, called cancer.

Another Weekend Fun

Another crazy weekend around Relay For Life.

Friday had us over at AXtion 3 for a most excellent live concert by Lightning Strikes with their tribute performance of The Bangles and the place was hopping. Besides their Friday night parties, AXtion 3 has live events booked every Saturday, Mondays and Wednesdays. So hit them up for a group invite to catch them, when they pay tribute to your favorite band.

Saturday and Sunday was a Country Music Fest Teams R Us event with nonstop music and fun on two sims. RFL ADvocacy had a stall complete with a Beam Bag Toss game, some wonderful cakes made by the amazing Cherish, a roaring fire to warm up by and lots of coffee to keep everyone going.

Holocluck Henly held a 7 Seas fishing derby and had a great turn out, wish I could have caught it. Once I catch up with him, I’ll get some pictures hopefully. Hugs thanks Doc!

Country Music Jam, RFL TRU 2 (53, 219, 22) - Moderat

The highlight for me, was watching and listening to my dear friend Aryon Dagger do a set on Saturday night.

The unfortunate part for me is that this was Easter weekend and was busy with family dinner on both days. Saturday I drove my folks to my brother place for the day and Sunday to my sisters for dinner. So I only managed to catch about 3 hours of the Country Music Fest.

And poor Panza weekend was a bit frustrating when on Saturday a storm blew though her area and knocked out the power for the remaining of the day and on Sunday when she lost her internet.

Guess that life in the virtual world for ya.

The Bangles by Lightning Strikes

Do we have a party for you tonight, or do we have a party?

This Friday Evening, from 8-9pm SLT, AXtion 3 and RFL ADvocacy is presenting for your entertainment pleasure

*** The Bangles by Lightning Strikes ***

AXtion 3 and RFL ADvocacy have teamed up to bring you a concert series this Relay Season, every Friday night, from many amazing bands of Second Life, some you many know and seen already, others you may not have seen, but I know, you will enjoy, just as much.

Everyone at AXtion 3 are super excited and motivated to become much more involved with RFL of SL, for personal reasons, much like the reasons we all have, because cancer has touched people they love, people they care deeply for, and also wish to do their part, to stop this. So AXtion 3 going to add their voice and make some NOISE, and NOISE is something they know how to make, with their instruments and songs.

So please stop by to welcome them to the family.

Just your average weekend Around Relay,…

This is just from my weekends log of my travels, when I remembered to take pictures going around Relay.

Friday night’s plan was to relax and do what I love doing, “Event Hopping.” Quick check of the event page finds the Cure Chasers hosting their first one of the season  were I find Amanda, the team captain from RFL Moonstar Mavericks sporting a lovely new coat, for their Team’s visit of Skinky.
The Foundation For Life team was getting primitive, with their Stone Age party, wish I had pictures from that. I do love Foundation, they do bring a wondrful South American flair to all they do. Bravo! Later that evening Panza and I find Team Fox Star hosting a Pirate themed part. Having never seen this team before, we make our introductions and do what Relay people do, chat them up, get busy in groups and friend list calling people out to share our support to what they are doing for Relay. Was a very delightful evening of music and laughter.
Saturday was a blur of quick drop rez ins to SL, to deal with this and that. We did stop at one point and visited the Gor festival, for a wonderful brake from a busy day, working 3 different projects streams, of College, Work Placement and shot of double Relay.
GorSat night was again a bit of relay “event hopping,” mixed with long smooches while multitasking, preparing for our Sunday’s first stop, on the ADvocacy Road Show. This first stop was at the club area of a semi private residential sim owned by Cherish Darkstone Capalini, and dear friend of Panza.

Scott Criss offered to to cover this week’s event for us. Scott Criss is on air at T1Radio on Fridays from 7-9pm SLT and taking part is The Rockers Top DJ Competition. Thanks to everyone at Savage, Scott and everyone stopping by, helped kick $8,000L in the kitty!

The rest of sunday was more event hopping. Here at SL MUSIC RACES FOR A CURE MUSIC FEST before listening in to this week T1Radio show and late stopping in for their Skunk Aid. Both Mavericks and the Rockers working to de-skunk themselves.

MFest-SkunkAidAlong the way, little whispers and waves from friends all over Relay. And a new partnership was formed, and something very exciting, is on the horizon for ADvocacy, but you have to wait until next week to find out more,… SO very cool, should be fun.

Let make some NOISE!

RFL ADvocacy Kickoff Event

RFL ADvocacy Kickoff Event – by Panza Finch
Event # 4067

I’m so excited to be on a team for the first time this year, especially the RFL ADvocacy Team. We are one of the new teams joining with others to fund raise for the American Cancer Society from now until July, 2013. In July, we’ll all be walking the track with survivors, caregivers and volunteers from all over the grid.

RFL Advocacy doesn’t have a central location or “home base” to hold events. So, we plan to host Road Shows at various locations that we frequent and whose owners support our efforts to fund raise.

Our first event is scheduled for Sunday, March 17, 2013 at noon slt. The location for this celebration is very special for me, as it is the club owned by my chosen sister in both RL and SL, Cherish Darkstone Capellini.

Cher is one of the most special people I’ve met in my life, and I’m so glad she let’s me claim her as a sister. She took care of me during my own medical crisis and continues to nurture others who come into her life. She’s listened to me for years talking about RFL in SL, and this year joined a team for the first time along with her SL husband, Heath. I’m delighted she chose the ADvocacy team.

In her own words, here is a bit about Cher, her club and why she relays:

Heya! Cherish Darkstone here.

032013RFLCherish1_001Why am I involved in RFL? It’s simple. Too many of my family members, including myself, have been struck by this horrible disease. “The only way we can cure it, is to be a part of making it go away.”

My cancer battles began the year I discovered my mother had cancer in 1999. I had just started a new job, and one month later we got the news. They said my mom only had 3 to 6 months to live and she battled for 11 months. Shortly after my mom was diagnosed, my aunt was diagnosed. She fought for 3 years. Then another aunt. She fought for 5 years. Then in 2008, I was diagnosed with skin cancer. This March is my five year miracle. Now, my father. The past 2 years he continues to get spots of skin cancer.

My first RFL event was 3 years ago with my sister Panza. The walk was amazing. Since then I have always have a kiosk out at my club.

I originally came to SL to escape RL;for a few moments of distraction. What I discovered was a world where anything was possible. Peoples’ creations amazed me. And the music, ah the music. I had not been listening to music for several years. To be honest, after my mom was diagnosed, it all just sounded like noise. There was no joy anymore. SL brought music back to me.

Savage Dance Club was originally owned by Tigo and opened it’s doors in May, 2007. I walked into the club sometime around the end of October, 2007. Savage was one of the first clubs I visited when coming to Second Life. I fell in love with this club. A place I could play, listen to music, act crazy and it was all okay. I would tp over to the club at times when they weren’t open and donate, then giggle and leave. Tigo later yelling at me…lol.

Tigo approached me on November 14, 2008 asking if I wanted to own the club. What? My favorite club…and they are asking if I wanted to own it!! So after being in SL for only a year, I became a club owner.

I haven’t been on SL much the past year, as I’m now helping to take care of my father in law who has Alzheimer’s. But, when we get a chance to have an event, the music is good and the company is wonderful. If you get a chance to come by, do so. Join the club and enjoy the sim. We have a Boat Dock where you can rez a boat, jump in and explore. We also have a good ole Swamp House where you can get your cuddles on. We also have a few rentals available if you like living in the swamp.

I also dabble in making cakes, which I’ll be donating to the Cake Walk on March 30 31st (ADvocacy’s Teams are Us booth). Check out marketplace for some of my creations.

Cheers to RLF! Cheers to 100 Years of Hope!
Peace and Love, Cherish

We are lucky to have DJ Scott Criss spinning the tunes for us. Hope you can join the fun and “cherish” life with us.

To more birthdays…….
